Any Sound

Any Sound is a new platform for creative music education in Western Australia, dedicated to fostering a new generation of musicians who are encouraged to explore, imagine and invent in their musical life from the earliest days of their learning.

Music students who trust their intuition and curiosity are better equipped to create music that is meaningful to them: to be nourished and inspiring by music-making. Existing education pathways may not actively discourage this trust, but they rarely are able to give enough time and energy to helping students both identify what they themselves find fascinating, and pathways to work on and apply their fascination. In the worst cases, music education can be permanently discouraging or even traumatising.

The platform is pan-genre and aims to connect aspiring artists with practicing creative musicians directly. All mentors are at the leading edge of their practice, with a broad knowledge of music and a range of contemporary skills for music-making in a range of contexts. Students might study composition, recording or production techniques, or further their studies on a specific instrument - but the learning is always connected to their own curiosity and what they are excited to learn.

The Any Sound website is currently in development, and will feature online resources, a teacher's registry and learning pathways for emerging artists.
